‘I Tried 4 Full Coverage Foundations to Cover my Acne Scarring- Here’s My Honest Reviews, and Tips’

If you’re looking for a full coverage foundation that still looks like real skin, you’re in the right place.

I’ve tested a bunch of higher-end formulas, especially for sensitive and acne-prone skin, and these four are honestly the standouts.

Below, you’ll find my honest reviews, how each one feels on the skin, and my best tips for making full coverage foundation work for you.

Beauty Blender Bounce Foundation, $52.00

I use shade:  Shade light olive 2.20

Let’s start with my favourite. See me using it here when my acne was more angry:

The Beauty Blender Bounce Foundation is the one I reach for when my skin is playing up or I need something to last through a big day.

This one gives serious coverage but manages to keep a natural, satin matte finish.

It never looks too powdery or flat, which is a big deal if you want your skin to still look like skin.

This formula has never caused my acne to flare up, even when my skin was at its most sensitive.

If you are worried about foundation making blemishes worse, this one has not done that for me.

The only thing to know is that it is a bit on the thicker side, so if you want a lighter texture, keep reading.

Naked Sundays BeautyScreen™ SPF50 Peptide Foundation Tint, $54.95

Next up, the Naked Sundays Beauty Screen SPF50 is the foundation I use when I want something light, but I still need that coverage.

I use: Shade 2. (You can use code: “Minnie15” for 15% off)

See me using it here:

It goes on as a really thin liquid tint, but you can build it up until you get the finish you want.

The formula is loaded with skincare, so you get SPF50 and peptides as a bonus.

If you are someone who hates heavy makeup, you will love this one. It is basically weightless on the skin but still covers what you need it to.

Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation, $78.00

I use shade: Shade 13 Light Medium Cool Olive

Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation is perfect if you want true full coverage and a matte finish.

This one is not for those who like to sheer out their foundation.

See me using it here:

It is the kind of foundation that will cover everything and has a very matte, almost powdery finish.

What I notice with this formula is that the skin absorbs light rather than reflecting it.

There is no powder on my face when I wear this, it is just that matte.

Huda Beauty Easy Blur Natural Airbrush Foundation, $66.00

I use shade: Shade 210B Chai

The last one is the Huda Beauty Easy Blur Foundation.

This is a bit more flexible than the others. You can apply it lightly for a more natural tint, or build it up for serious coverage.

See me using it here:

I find this one especially blurring, so if you want to smooth out pores or texture, it is a great pick.

It is not a flat matte either, which means it still looks like real skin, even when you get close up.

How to Make Full Coverage Foundation Look Natural

Even the best foundation needs a good routine to really shine. Here are my favourite full coverage tips:

Prep Your Skin First

Skin prep is everything, especially if you are using a full coverage base.

You do not need to layer on ten different serums, but make sure your skin is hydrated before you start.

I like using a gentle moisturiser and a bit of eye prep.

Recently, I have been testing a colour corrector from Kindle Collective.

It is a little more silky and less pigmented, which works well under the eyes.

Use Clean Brushes and Tools

Your application method will make a big difference.

Clean brushes are a must, not just for blending, but also because dirty brushes hold onto dead skin and old makeup, which can make your foundation look textured.

If you have dry or flaky skin, a gentle exfoliation before makeup can help.

Set Where Needed

With full coverage foundation, a little setting powder goes a long way.

I always pat out any creases, especially under the eyes or around the mouth, before setting with something like the Huda Beauty Cherry Blossom powder or Patrick Ta.

The right powder keeps everything looking smooth, not cakey.

Cream or Powder Products

While cream blush and bronzer are gorgeous, sometimes powders are easier for a full coverage look.

If you use cream products, always dab, never swipe, so you do not lift up the foundation you just applied.

Modern Formulas, No Cakey Finish

Full coverage foundations are not what they used to be.

New formulas look and feel a lot better on the skin, so you do not have to worry about looking cakey.

You also do not need to buy the most expensive setting spray.

Even something simple like a hydrating face mist will do the trick.

Final Thoughts

All four of these full coverage foundations have a place in my routine for different reasons.

Whether you want a natural satin finish, a super lightweight tint, a true matte, or something that smooths everything out, there is an option here for you.

If you have any full coverage tips of your own, or a favourite foundation I should try, let me know.
