The Best Tinted Sunscreen for Dark Skin? My Review of The BeautyScreen Peptide Foundation Tint SPF50

The Best Tinted Sunscreen for Dark Skin? My Review of The BeautyScreen Peptide Foundation Tint SPF50

Quick Summary: Finding any tinted sunscreen for dark skin that actually works – let alone the best – has historically been a nightmare. The Naked Sundays BeautyScreen Peptide Foundation Tint SPF50 is the product that made me stop cynically scrolling to the bottom of the shade range and actually believe. No cast or dullness, an equal shade range for all skin tones that fits you, and SPF that holds up. I tested it for 13 hours on oily skin with no primer and no powder. Here’s my review.

Key Takeaways

  • The white cast problem is real and it disproportionately affects deeper skin tones – BeautyScreen is one of the few tinted SPFs to genuinely solve it
  • Mineral sunscreens are notoriously bad for casting grey or white on dark skin; BeautyScreen avoids this entirely
  • The 15-shade range extends meaningfully into deeper tones – Shade 9 is my match.
  • BeautyScreen’s watery formula makes applying the full ¼ teaspoon for real SPF protection look natural rather than cakey
  • No oxidising, no separation, and no concerning oil levels across a 13-hour no-primer, no-powder wear test on oily skin
  • The finish is skin-like rather than glittery or luminous
  • Coverage is buildable from light to medium – sheers out beautifully, layers without patchiness
  • Fragrance-free and cruelty-free
  • Available directly from Naked Sundays or at MECCA online and instore

As a dark-skinned beauty lover, I have found myself becoming more and more cynical of tinted sunscreen releases, let alone mineral skin SPF tints.

My initial excitement usually wanes once I see the shade range (or lack thereof).

The Naked Sundays BeautyScreen SPF50 Peptide Foundation Tint (bet you can’t say that 5 times really fast) not only positively surprised me, but it also made me a believer.

The Australian-born brand has been releasing banger after banger and revolutionising ‘sunscreen makeup’ as we know it and this new launch might be their best one yet.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Aussie formulations are leading the sunscreen game.

Tinted sunscreens are not a new concept, but you haven’t seen them done like this.

BeautyScreen is the first product of its kind where you are not only encouraged to wear the ¼ teaspoon required for sun protection, you can do it without looking ‘cakey’.

Though, if you’re rocking this one as a true skin tint, don’t rely on it alone for your primary sunscreen.

The Shade Range And Texture of BeautyScreen

Not only that, this cutting-edge formula also comes in 15 flexible shades, recently adding three cool-toned editions: 1.5 Fair Cool, 3.5 Light Medium Cool, and 9.6 Rich Cool.

I wear shade 9 and when I say the blend is perfect, I’m not exaggerating.

This one-of-a-kind product has a watery/ fluid texture which enables you to sheer it out or build it up so you can customise your coverage.

You can apply it with your fingers or with their BFF brush.

Unlike their Cabana Glow Mineral Glow Serum Drops, BeautyScreen doesn’t contain mica, so the resulting finish is more skin-like than luminous (also good news for any of us with textural sensitivities).

Not only that, it’s fragrance free and cruelty free. Like, what more could you want?

My Review And 13-Hour Wear Test Results

Looking blended! Image: Provided.

Because I’m a woman in STEM, I subjected the product to a 13-hour wear test with no primer, just my usual morning skincare and no setting powder either.

I was planning on spending the whole day at home and wanted to see how the product would wear and if it would oil up or possibly even separate.

Dearest gentle reader, it did none of that.

Not only did it not separate, but I also somehow didn’t develop KFC bucket levels of oil on my forehead either. I don’t know about you but that sounds like wizardry to me.

It’s infused with:

  • Collagen boosting peptides
  • Soothing bisabolol
  • Hydrating allantoin
  • Skin barrier supporting vegan squalane (derived from olives)
  • Intensely hydrating polyglutamic acid
  • Balancing niacinamide

An absolute powerhouse ingredient line up that amongst other things helps to support the overall health of your skin barrier.
