Biobod Skincare Review: Men’s Skin Care Tips From A Guy Who Actually Tried It

Biobod Skincare Review: Men’s Skin Care Tips From A Guy Who Actually Tried It

Quick Summary

This biobod review comes from a guy with sensitive, breakout-prone skin and a beard. I tested the five products alongside my basic cleanser, moisturiser, and SPF routine. The short version: gentle, simple to stick to, and my skin felt calmer and less tight. Worth it for sensitive skin and beginners.

For guys, diving into the world of skincare can be a daunting task, let alone finding a reliable place to learn skincare tips for men.

So, here’s my shot at sharing about skincare and reviewing the biobod range as a guy, whether you’re trying to learn and use more yourself, or honestly just finally giving what your partner has been asking you to try for a while now.

Let’s talk about the different types of products, what they’re used for, how they’re used, what not to do… it can all be overwhelming. Biobod has a great range that makes upping your skincare game way easier.

The products look neutral and clean, they’re simple to use, and easy to slot into your routine to keep you consistent.

Men’s Skin Care Matters More Than Most Guys Think

Men often downplay the importance of skincare for themselves. Thankfully this mindset is decreasingly true as time goes on, but historically having any sort of skincare routine has been considered too feminine, or just unnecessary for guys to consider.

Marketing and social acceptance has also followed this closely, meaning guys have been left outside the loop for far too long now.

Men’s Skin Is Different

All skin needs care and attention, but there’s also a lot that is more specific to men that gets underplayed. Male skin typically produces more oil due to higher testosterone.

Facial hair on men is also significant, either from the irritation of shaving, or from hair and skin under the hair not getting what it needs.

Guys are also typically less likely to use products in the first place, meaning dehydrated skin after showers, and barrier damage from being outside without sunscreen.

The Biggest Mistakes Men Make

Even the most well-intentioned guys can make mistakes with their skin, which left uncorrected can lead to further damage.

Probably the biggest is not using the holy trinity of cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen, and especially versions of these that are enjoyable, and are part of a consistent routine.

Beyond that, over-cleansing can be too harsh (who would have thought more clean was bad?!), and using harsh scrubs or other products in unsuitable ways just because they’re around can really freak out your skin.

What Is Biobod

Biobod is an Australian skincare company with a focus on care for sensitive skin. Their product range is positioned around supporting a healthy skin microbiome, a strong skin barrier, and controlling inflammation. Their products and packaging have a great clean, neutral feel that look great wherever you have them.

Who Biobod Is Best For

Biobod is best suited to people with sensitive skin, and particularly skin that is reactive or acne prone.

Their look and feel is quality, and great for guys to have around to display. It’s also a great place to start for a beginner’s foray into an expanded skincare space, with bundles and simple products and routines to help build skincare knowledge and confidence.

My Skin Before Starting Biobod

My Main Concerns

My skin is fairly sensitive, and can react to new products or environments with redness and breakouts.

Although I do try my best, there are times where I’ll forget to cleanse, moisturise, or use SPF during the day, and my skin feels gross and takes a while to get back to a healthy state.

I also have a beard, and trim and shave pretty frequently, so I’ve got the combo of shaving irritation as well as wanting products that will be fine alongside my beard.

What I Wanted From A Routine

I need a routine to be a few things for me to like and stay consistent with it. I need to enjoy using the products, which is the most important since people rarely choose to put up with things they don’t enjoy for long.

I also want a routine to be simple so it’s a no-thought action for me to take.

Finally I love things in my routine to be cost-effective and easily available so I can keep it up long after my first round of products run out.

The Biobod Routine I Tried

I tried the “Ultimate Skin Confidence” Biobod bundle ($215.60, RRP $308.00) that includes five products. I used this alongside my cleanser + moisturiser + SPF routine, just substituting out the cleanser for the one in the bundle.

Step 1 – Biobod Gentle Rice + Oat Cleansing Powder, $52.00

The Gentle Rice + Oat Cleansing Powder is a gentle powder cleanser that lathers up to a calming texture and leaves your skin feeling refreshed. It leans into traditional cleansing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, rice bran extract, and turmeric to encourage turnover without irritating your skin.

I had never used a powder cleanser before, but was surprised how well it worked. The powder mixed really well when adding water, and didn’t leave any residue when I worked it into my face. It is also extremely light, and left my skin feeling clean without irritation.

Step 2 – Biobod Replenishing Hydra-Soothe Serum, $52.00

The Replenishing Hydra-Soothe Serum is a light serum you can barely feel on your skin. It contains a bunch of great active ingredients which seep deep into your skin and work together to help balance it and give a great hydrated look and feel.

I use 2–3 pumps and apply super gently on my skin, taking care not to press too hard or rub too quickly. I use this after I’ve cleansed (either in the shower or before bed), and before moisturising, so I keep those products right next to each other so I don’t forget this step.

Step 3 – Biobod Barrier Restore Nutrient Oil, $76.00

The Barrier Restore Nutrient Oil is a light face oil that helps lock in the moisture of all the other steps in your routine prior to this, and keep your face nice and healthy and hydrated. Many people will see “oil” and think an oil will give them acne, especially if they’re historically acne-prone.

But it entirely depends on the type of oil used, and the Barrier Restore Nutrient Oil uses biocompatible oils that help your skin instead of clogging it up.

This product has a dropper, and I use about three drops each night after my serum and moisturiser to lock in the moisture.

It’s important to be gentle, spreading on your hands before lightly patting on your face. I run any excess through my beard and hair, which this oil is also well-suited to!

Step 4 – Biobod Probiotic Salvation Balm, $44.00

The Probiotic Salvation Balm is a great product for eliminating super dry or irritated skin. It uses a patented probiotic to normalise and protect the area it’s applied to. The Salvation Balm is also super gentle, so it can be used on pretty much all skin, including for babies.

I really like the Probiotic Salvation Balm as a lip balm.

I use it mostly either side of sleeping so my lips don’t get dry overnight and get damaged, and so my lips stay great during the day. The taste is surprisingly fine as well – not artificially flavoured like some lip products, but also not like it shouldn’t be on your lips in the first place.

Bonus – Biobod Calming Balance Cleanse Bar And Cleanse Bar Rest

The Calming Balance Cleanse Bar is another calming cleanser in the range, but a bar instead of a container of product.

Despite generally not being a huge fan of bar soaps, I actually really liked this one. It lathers up very easily and feels very smooth on the skin it’s applied to, and is good for gently nourishing your skin. It’s also great environmentally since it can exist without plastic packaging.

The Cleanse Bar Rest is a cute little holder for the Calming Balance Cleanse Bar, and works great to hold it without it slipping around the bathroom. It’s antibacterial, and 100% sustainable.

You can get them both together in the Cleanse Set: Cleanse Bar & Rest bundle.

My Honest Thoughts After Using Biobod

What I Liked

There’s a lot to like in the “Ultimate Skin Confidence” bundle from Biobod, and I’m definitely going to be using a few of these products in my routine long-term.

Firstly I loved how simple each product step was, and how easy it was to integrate into my current routine. I wasn’t using a serum or face oil before, but adding them was such an easy step, and made much easier by the product instructions and guides.

I also really love how it changed the way my skin felt. I typically shower right before bed, and even with generous moisturiser my skin has often felt tight and dry.

However, using the Biobod serum and face oil has made me forget that, and I’ve been waking up with pretty calm, happy skin.

I’ve also realised I haven’t been noticing much redness in my face, which I can especially get after waking up or coming home from work.

What I Didn’t Love

There’s a few things I’d be wary of with this bundle, especially if you’re just starting to delve deeper into skincare.

Firstly, the price can be surprising. Biobod products are premium in look, feel, and price.

There is some relief in the fact that you’re only using a tiny bit of these products each time you use them, so they will last for ages thanks to the sizes, it’s just more of a cost upfront. Something to be aware of, especially if you’re used to a $20 moisturiser from Woolies.

The cleansing powder is also a bit of a switch up, as I usually cleanse in the shower. As it’s a powder and frosted glass, it’s not shower friendly, so I use it after instead. A bit of a change to my usual routine.

Who I’d Recommend It To

Despite the few points raised above, I’ll still highly recommend the Biobod routine to pretty much anyone, but especially those trying to build out their routine a bit more, and especially those that have sensitive skin, or just don’t want to deal with a skin freak out when changing products.

I’d totally recommend the “Ultimate Skin Confidence” bundle as a gift, especially if the alternative was going to be the standard socks or shaving bundle.

Is Biobod Worth It?

Biobod is a great Australian company with a line of really solid skincare products. There’s a bit of an entry price, but not unlike any other brand, and well worth it for many people.

Worth It If…

You have sensitive skin. Biobod’s whole ethos is directed towards helping those with sensitive skin, and it’s reflected in how they’ve formulated their products.

You have skin barrier issues. Biobod’s products specifically target building a strong skin barrier.

You are a beginner. Biobod’s bundles and products are a great introduction to care-free exploration in an expanded skincare space.

Skip It If…

You are looking for skincare with really active-heavy products. Biobod is all about gentle solutions for sensitive skin, so if you’re looking for products with lots of more-intense active ingredients this may not be for you.

Final Verdict On Biobod

If you’re a guy looking to expand your skincare repertoire, but you’re unsure where to start, and you don’t want to mess up your skin with the wrong thing, Biobod is a great place to start.

Its range is simple and focused, gentle instead of throwing lots at your skin, and a great way to maintain healthy skin.
