When I entered my thirties, hormone shifts affected my skin and it went from dry to quite blemish prone.

I am a true “combination” skin type, stuck with the dry cheeks and grease in my T-zone where I get a lot of congestion and breakouts, plus extreme dehydration, so it feels tight and uncomfortable a lot of the time.

I like hydrating serums with Niacinamide and lotion textured moisturisers.

I have sensory issues because I am Autistic, so texture plays a huge role in what I like; my skin needs to feel comfortable at all times, and many products for acne-prone skin tend to dry it out further.

Boring Without You is no stranger to my routine as I purchased the For Face Sake Multi-Mask back in 2023 and had excellent results with it.

Davey Rooney (the founder of Boring Without You) knew what he was doing by putting two different masks in one jar.

It has remained one of my favourite masks to date and was also featured in my recent Instagram giveaway.

#RivetReview

In September 2024, Boring Without You released two new highly anticipated products, the Make Me Wet™ Aquaporin Hydrating Milk Serum and the Face Flood™ Aquaporin Soothing Hydrating Gel Moisturiser.

The launch came after a slight manufacturing delay with an amazing social campaign featuring wetsuits, vintage refrigerators, milk baths, and the pink moisturiser spread on toast.

Influencers also received a unique PR gift box that included an AI generated image of themselves made to look like they were underwater.

Make me Wet Hydrating Milk Serum

After cleansing and watching the water evaporate quickly from my skin, I dispensed two pumps of the serum into my hands and I could instantly feel the silky texture give me a rush.

After massaging the serum into my face and neck, there was this sense of relief that comes only when my skin is wet.

The texture is akin to a watery slime, for lack of a better description. Yes, it’s wet.

Face Flood™ Aquaporin Moisturiser

After allowing the serum to do its thing, I went in with the pink gel-cream textured moisturiser (which is my favourite texture for warmer months).

It felt cool and calming, exactly like I expected it to, but I can’t get past it looking like strawberry custard.

It does have a slightly herbal mint aroma which can probably be attributed to one of the active complexes (the products do not contain any added fragrance).

Packaging & Formula

The bright electric colours used in the branding translates into playful packaging like the milk carton box of Make Me Wet serum to match its milky texture, as well as keeping things exciting with the pink icing appearance of Face Flood moisturiser.

Be sure to look for Easter Eggs on the outer packaging for a good giggle!

The concentrated active formulas are vegan friendly, animal cruelty free, scientifically backed and manufactured in Australia from global components.

Key Ingredients

Boring Without You are very transparent about the usage rates of active ingredients in their products and they use them at their maximum rates where applicable.

  • AQUAPORIN Hydration Complex increases the naturally occuring proteins that form water transport channels, enhancing the skin’s natural ability to look hydrated. Serum: 2.5% | Moisturiser: 2.5%

  • Glycerin is a tried and true favourite humectant that has stood the test of time. Serum: 10% | Moisturiser: 3%

  • BioSymmetry Advance™ marries Glycerin, Madecassosside (from Centella) and Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract to balance oil and visibly reduce pore size while also promoting hydration. Serum: 3% | Moisturiser: 3%

  • Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA) that acts as an humectant and helps to smooth skin with gentle exfoliation. Serum: 2%

  • Japanese Red Bean Extract is proven to visibly firm skin tone and make it bouncy. Serum: 1%

  • Aquaxyl™ plays very nicely with Glycerin to lock in hydration and improve the skin’s barrier, leaving skin looking and feeling smooth. Moisturiser: 1.5%

  • Barrier Strength Complex made with Mondo Grass helps to support the skin barrier, making it look and feel hydrated. Moisturiser: 3%

  • Niacinamide is the go-to hero for a bright and calm looking complexion, especially in blemish-prone skin. Moisturiser: 5%

Final Verdict

These products feel as if Davey looked at my skin and formulated them just for me!

The serum makes my skin feel comfortable and hydrated, without stickiness. It’s compatible with most of my other skincare including hydrating essences and sunscreens.

The moisturiser is good on its own, but it’s even better with the serum.

It’s very sensory friendly. It’s not the most emollient of formulas, so if you’re combination with more dry patches, you can definitely use some facial oil or slug afterwards to really lock in that hydration.
