The Lumi Restorative Botanical Facial by LOST&FOUND Skin Lab first caught my attention for its focus on sensitive, acne-prone skin (my skin type).

Ok- I’m interested.

Exploring more, the thoughtful supply chain, Australian, and women owned brand had a strong mission I could get behind.

Lost and Found Skin Lab claims to provide spa-like results without the spa price tag, for skin types that typically don’t get to enjoy more β€œfancy” skincare picks.

A Quick Blurb About LOST&FOUND Skin Lab

LOST&FOUND Skin Lab is a women-owned small business based in Melbourne, Australia.

Founded by Krista Pecenka, her journey towards creating her brand started in 2020 alongside some of the strictest lockdowns in Australia, and studying her health science doctorate.

After years of battling adult acne and pouring money into high cost skincare, Krista found herself deep-diving into the world of symbiotic skincare - an approach that treats skin issues through a more holistic, big picture lens.

I’ve since learnt that every step of the brand, from the formulation to packaging, is intentional, women lead, and traceable.

Product Snapshot

Here’s a quick run through the facts about the Lumi Restorative Botanical Facial

What is it?

  • An at home facial mask designed for sensitive, acne-prone skin in mind, but can be enjoyed by all skin types.

  • The mix it yourself mask tightens dramatically on the skin to promote blood flow, brighten the skin, and gently exfoliate.

Claims:

  • Designed to soothe, brighten, and refine.

  • Created to encourage that naturally healthy, lit-from-within glow.

Notable Ingredients:

  • Albumen tightens on the skin and encourages post-facial glow.

  • Zea Mays Starch absorbs excess oil and sebum without drying.

  • Finger Lime Extract, Kakadu Plum Extract, and Davidson’s Plum Extract as antioxidants.

What Makes It Different?

Typically, this tighten on contact mask style is only available in clinic, with similar product experiences costing up to $350 per session.

Often products focused on acne-prone skin are harsh, which can lead to further irritation.

Active ingredients aren’t always the way to go, and it’s great to have an option that is gentle and effective.

Texture and Application

Not a typical mask that might be thick, creamy or mud like. I personally found the spa messaging really resonate with the experience of using the facial kit.

Image: Side by side, three screenshots from a video I posted on my instagram using Lumi, showing me mix the power with water, and mixing the facial in the lid of the packaging.

Lumi starts off as a powder that you mix yourself using the included scoop and ratio guide.

Once mixed, the texture is thin and fluid, which allows you to apply a light, even layer over the face, neck, and dΓ©colletage.

If you skip those extra areas, one mix can stretch to two uses- so just mix half a scoop of water / Lumi if you’re planning to do that.

There’s a slight gentle graininess from Davidson Plum, which gives antioxidant benefits and also acts as a gentle physical exfoliant when rinsing off. It’s subtle but noticeable.

You can see it visually as deep purple flecks through the formula.

As quickly as you apply it, the facial starts to tighten and firm on the skin.

Scent and Packaging

Lumi has a fresh, slightly creamy scent that’s subtle and non-offensive.

It’s not fragranced, which I know some people with sensitive skin have as a non-negotiable.

The tub has an anti-spill seal and the kit has everything you need to use Lumi well.

How I Use It

I’ve used Lumi three times so far, always at the end of the day but before a shower.

I apply it to freshly cleansed skin, and sometimes I put moisturiser around my eyes beforehand just so that area doesn’t feel dry, as Lumi isn’t designed for the eye area.

Consistency has helped me see results, especially since the mask does offer some physical exfoliation when tightening, and when rinsing off in the shower.

The mask tightens quite intensely as it dries, giving that professional-facial feeling.

If you're new to that sensation, start with 10 minutes.

I leave it on for 20 minutes now and enjoy pairing the ritual with hair oiling or a quick cuticle trim + nail filing session.

I rinse mine off in the shower, which is especially important if you’re taking it down your neck and chest.

Lumi is a hit for my mum, and she likes to remove it with a damp cloth in small circles.

My Results

After each use, my skin feels softer, looks brighter, and absorbs the rest of my skincare much better.

I treat my skin like I would after a gentle exfoliation, with lots of hydration and barrier-repair ingredients.

You may notice some redness in lines on your face. That’s normal!

The marbling effect is very similar to a light cupping on the face, and helps bring glow and blood flow.

Who Is It Best For?

Personally, I think Lumi works for most skin types.

My skin is sensitive and acne-prone, and I’ve had great results. As mentioned, I also asked my mum to try Lumi.

She has mature skin and concerns around firmness, and she really enjoyed it!

Noting: If your skin doesn’t tolerate physical exfoliants well or you avoid egg-derived ingredients, this isn’t the right match.

Final Verdict

Would I recommend it? 100 percent.

Would I repurchase? Absolutely.

Is it worth the price? Yes, especially if you're looking for a spa-like experience at home that supports skin health without being too harsh.

With 8 uses in each tub, I personally think it’s a steal!

Lumi is a skincare product that’s elevated, experiential, and still gentle enough for those of us with fussy skin.

It delivers results, feels a bit luxurious, and gives us acne-prone girlies a moment of skincare joy (and who doesn’t love a dramatic after result?).
