Jasmin Jenkins, one of the co-founders of Australian skincare brand Thirst Turtl, graciously gave us some behind-the-scenes insight on their personal brand story and why they go the extra mile to ensure the suppliers are from First Nations farmers.

She also lets us know what the new products are on the way to our shelves very soon.

Founder Story

Jasmin, along with Ellen Thomas and Alisha Geary, founded Thirsty Turtle based on the shared vision of providing skincare that spotlights native Australian plants.

The three approached this from different angles; Alicia has a mission to boost brands and the consumer as a way of elevating Indigenous culture.

She’s able to perfectly tie her Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethnicity with her experience in consumer brands.

Ellen, while living in Asia, was inspired by the Korean beauty industry and its clinical ingredients.

With her industrial chemistry background, she was making her own products and sourcing raw materials.

And Jasmin? Her work in sustainable finance made it possible to create an industry around native plants for good reason.

“I had seen that there's a lot of environmental damage from modern agriculture, and there was a little bit of a missed opportunity to use the plants that grow here in Australia,” she tells us.

The trio, with their combined experience, had approached the opportunity and the challenge of using as many First Nations suppliers as they could to create Thirsty Turtle.

About The Skincare

Each skincare product that Thirsty Turtle launches spotlights a hero ingredient specially supplied by a First Nations farmer.

“We think about sourcing a lot, and we formulate the product around the hero ingredient and the hero suppliers that we want to work with,” Jasmin explains.

“In our brightening gel cream, for instance, we use native tomato that comes from a farmer who's based in South Australia and is processed by an incredible female-led business in the Byron Bay region.”

The brand values a tight, pared-back and simplified routine and therefore offers three products for an uncomplicated skincare routine.

Here’s a Glance at The Range:

Forest Therapy Balancing Cream Foam Cleanser

The Forest Therapy Balancing Cream Foam Cleanser starts as the first step of the routine. It’s a cream-to-foam texture formulated with Australian white cypress hydrosol and 10% glycerin.

It not only cleanses but maintains the moisture balance of the skin.

Desert Glow Brightening Gel-Crème

The Desert Glow Brightening Gel-Crème is a lightweight, hydrating option enriched with tomato, green tea, prickly pear, and 5% niacinamide.

Designed for its antioxidant properties, this product combats the signs of sun damage while brightening and hydrating the skin.

Pacific Dusk Overnight Barrier Cream

For sensitive skin, the Pacific Dusk Overnight Barrier Cream is a luxe choice for protecting the skin barrier and locking in moisture.

Thanks to the 2% colloidal oatmeal, seaweed extract, and polyphenol-rich grape skin extract, this product soothes the skin, reduces redness and increases hydration.

It’s a popular choice for those with sensitive skin, rosacea, and other conditions that cause redness and inflammation.

What’s Next For Thirsty Turtl?

Exciting times are ahead, as the brand is in the process of adding another Indigenous supplier to their collective.

“So we work with two at the moment, and we've been developing some products with a third Indigenous supplier that will use plant ingredients that, as far as we know, haven't been used in skincare products before. And they're products that are really well known for their wound-healing benefits.”

In terms of new launches? It’s not just one, but three exciting new products are heading our way; A face oil, an eye cream, and a hydrating cream will join the ranks of the range and easily fit into the routine.

“We're excited about launching the new products. So some of our customers love the simplicity of the routine, but occasionally their skin wants something extra”, Jasmin confirms.

“When your skin is a little extra thirsty or a little bit irritated or angry, it will help with calming and hydrating.”
