This is the softest wearing of all of them, but I couldn’t not include it because it’s perfect. If you want to smell like a fairy that lives in a Monet painting, this is it. It’s a green violet leaf fragrance that has an almost water lily appeal about it, and then as it dries down you get a gorgeous, softly creamy, milky vanilla.
Best Gourmand Euro Summer Perfume: Odette Parfum Co Madeleine, from US$68.00
Odette – a small American house founded by former ballerina Odette Fontaine, whose self-taught perfumery draws on ballet and French pâtisserie – makes scents that are perfect for this, but this one especially reminds me of my breakfasts in Paris. It’s creamy, sweet, lightly vanillic and has just a hint of marzipan in the top. I am a marzipan hater, but I don’t hate this.
Best Vanilla Euro Summer Perfume: Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Salt, $54.00
If I was a perfume, I think I would be a salty vanilla, and this is one of the best (maybe even the best). If you want to smell like you’re eating a soft serve ice cream cone by the sea, this is the scent for you.
It’s lightly sweet but safe even if you don’t like vanilla – creamy without being remotely sunscreeny, lightweight and airy.
