Quick Summary: LED face masks are at-home light therapy devices designed to help the skin in multiple ways, often depending on the wavelength and colour. This can include improving skin tone, reducing redness, and supporting collagen production over time. Our roundup brings together six LED mask and device reviews so you can figure out whether one is right for you.
New to the world of LED devices? Wondering if they’re worth the often-hefty price tag that comes with them? We’ve rounded up six honest reviews from our beauty writers with different skin types, different levels of scepticism, and very different results and experiences.

What Makes an LED Mask Actually Work?
Before we get into the reviews, it’s worth understanding what separates a device that actually does something from one that’s essentially a very expensive night light.
Wavelength
Research published in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology suggests that different wavelengths trigger your skin to respond in different ways.
Red light, typically in the 630nm-670nm range, works closer to the skin’s surface. It’s associated with reducing inflammation and improving circulation, which can support wound healing and repair.
Near infrared light (NIR), around 830nm (a longer wavelength), penetrates more deeply into the skin where it can support collagen synthesis.
Many devices now combine both – and that dual-action approach is where the stronger results tend to come from.
Number Of Lights And Energy Output
More lights generally means more complete (and consistent) coverage, though ultimately it’s the density and arrangement of the LEDs that results in the light reaching your skin evenly.
Some devices also allow you to adjust intensity, which can be useful for different skin treatment goals, though we wouldn’t consider this an essential feature.
Distance From The Skin
This one surprises people. Light energy drops off significantly the further it travels – a device sitting 1-2cm from your skin will deliver meaningfully more energy than one pressed flush against it.
Some reviewers in this piece use gel pads to hold their masks slightly elevated, which is worth noting.
What Results Can You Expect From At-Home LED?
We’re really big on having routines that work for you and your lifestyle, so it’s important to manage expectations carefully. LED isn’t a one-session fix (even when using the pro tools in a clinic), and results vary depending on your skin concerns, device quality, and most importantly how consistently you use it.
A quick runthrough:
- Immediate effects (noticed within sessions or the first week) tend to include a subtle glow, slightly calmer or less reactive skin, and better product absorption straight after use.
- Short-to-medium term results (weeks two through six) are where most reviewers start seeing changes including smoother texture, reduced redness, and in some cases faster healing of breakouts or minor skin damage.
- Long-term use (several months to years) is where the more structural changes tend to show up. Improved resilience, fewer flare-ups, and a better tolerance to stronger actives.
Five Beauty Writers Share Their LED Experiences
Some of our writers are lifelong converts (8+ years of use!). Others tried a device with and found themselves happy to ditch it all together. Here’s what they actually thought in their own words.
LumiLift GlowLUXE – 7 Light LED Device, $489.00

Quick take: Yes! It’s great.
Review by: Minnie Isaac
“For someone with a busy brain like me, I wasn’t sure how helpful an LED mask was going to be, but I was open to it because I was experiencing some redness specifically around my nostrils, and I could tell my skin was feeling more irritated. I had tried traditional LED face masks in the past, too, but never stayed consistent.
Perhaps it was with the seasonal shift, but I dedicated myself to try a new one I got for six full weeks. I expected no results, as I had heard often that it’s a very long term deal.
I noticed a difference immediately, which left me a bit confused. At first I thought it was perhaps a placebo, but my skin looks and feels more calm immediately after using the LED.”

“And I get that long-term results take time, but I’ve been so impressed, and the results I liked on my first week are the same as the results I loved in week six. Plus, I like that it’s easy for me to use.
I don’t feel like I need to wrap on or “glad wrap” on a mask, which is very important because I don’t like having to clean between sessions (any extra block makes something harder to stick with, imo). And I have used this on my chest and my body as well as some areas where I’ve had some eczema flare-ups. It has quiet a few colours, though I’ve stuck to the red.
I think this gives a lot of flexibility to how you want to use your LED and it definitely took away the usual barriers that were there when I was trying to get into LED in the past. I was just really encouraged that there were in fact results so quickly. So I do recommend this one.”
Current Body LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2, $679.99

Quick take: Yes, absolutely!
Shared by: Morgan Rohan
“Using this consistently makes a significant difference in my overall skin quality and tone. Probably the biggest improvement for me is that I feel my skin is less reactive, which is major as someone who has eczema and spends a lot of time thinking about skin barrier strength.
Having this as part of my routine has my skin feeling stronger, less reactive and has that ‘natural glow’. It is absolutely a consistency thing – not so much that if I miss one night that my skin quality will fall off a cliff but I do get better results by using it at least 4 times a week.
I originally had the Series 1 mask from Current Body and now have the Series 2, which has even more lights and fits the face better.”

“Mine was gifted, but I had actually saved up to purchase one and fortunately got an email about gifting a few days before I was going to buy it – having now used it, I would happily have spent that money myself to invest.
Including LED in my routine has been an investment but one I would make over and over. I think that in combination with the skincare I use it has helped make such a difference in the overall strength of my skin barrier, as well as helping to reduce inflammation. This one runs for 10 minutes and is a nice way to help relax at the end of the day.”

Current Body LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 1, $585.99
Quick take: Give this one a miss. There’s newer models, too.
Shared by: Katie-Marie Thorpe
“In theory, I’m very much into the idea of an LED Device. The benefits are visible and buildable, I don’t have to go into a clinic and it’s non-invasive (yoga and face-mask, anyone?). Yet as much as I talked myself into using this, finding consistency and continuity felt like a chore.
While flexible and hygienic, the silicone mask felt awkward and uncomfortable to wear, and the strap would slowly edge down my scalp, meaning limited movement whilst wearing (goodbye multi-tasking yoga dreams).”

“I’ve noticed that in V2 of this highly-rated mask, they’ve introduced a face contouring shape which may make a difference in comfort. Despite only using the mask 5 times, my skin looked visibly smoother and brighter week-on-week.
This particular unit has NIR 830NM for deeper level collagen renewal and brighter skin; while I couldn’t attest to the collagen boost due to limited use, the glow was there instantly. Perhaps I’m simply too claustrophobic for LED masks, or need to try a newer gen one?”
Medicube Age-R Booster Pro, $300.00

Quick take: Great! But not a replacement for a dedicated LED mask.
Shared by: Frances Nam
“For anyone wanting to level up their skincare routine in 2026, this K-beauty device is worth considering.
I’ve had my Booster Pro for nearly six months now, using it 4-5 nights a week.
When I do my weekly pore-care routine (which involves clearing my pores, applying targeted skincare and finishing with a *cold* sheet mask), the Booster mode comes in especially handy.
My skin really drrrinks up all that concentrated goodness, and I wake up the next morning looking glowy AF! The Booster mode is honestly my favourite.”
“As for the MicroCurrent and DermaShot modes, I focus these on my forehead and nasolabial folds (smile lines) as a preventative measure, and over time my skin seems to look smoother and tighter in those areas.
Overall, I’ve been really happy with my little at-home beauty maintenance routine using the Booster Pro & it feels like my skincare is working just that little bit harder for me.”
ECO FACE Near Infrared LED Photon Mask, $507.47

Quick take: Big yes! Though might be an older pick now.
Shared by: Moonfacedoomface
“This is a hard shell mask with both red light (630nm) and near infrared light (830nm), with a total of 120 bulbs (60 each).
I’ve been using this mask consistently since 2019 (this will be the 8th year!) and it’s only just started acting up (the cord has to be at a certain pressure and angle for the bulbs to light up). I use it for the full 20 minutes per session, lying down, with the gel pads so it is 1-2cm away from my skin instead of pressing flush against it, and try to do it every night for best results. Better absorption of skincare afterwards was immediate.”

“Consistent prolonged use has calmed my sensitive skin (less redness and reactivity), made it more resilient (able to use stronger actives), and sped up the life cycle and healing of my hormonal underground chin pimples.
It stimulates the pimple to come to a head and resolve within days as opposed to weeks. It heals minor wounds (like picked skin, popped pimples) much quicker than without LED. When this eventually breaks, I will definitely be getting another LED mask!”
LumiLift GlowLUXE 7 Light LED Device, $489.00

Quick take: Yes! Love it.
Shared by: Ellie Bunic
“I love a good beauty gadget, and this one is extra fun because it’s flexible, body-friendly, and effective. The GlowLUXE LED device is designed for scars, skin tone, and overall glow. You can use it on your face or anywhere on your body, making it super versatile.
I’ve been experimenting with it on areas that needed a bit of love. Love how the concept of being able to use this anywhere!”
So, Is An LED Mask Worth It?
Across six very different experiences, a few things stand out. Consistency is the common thread in every positive result. Comfort – or the lack of – is what breaks habits.
Many of our writers noted an improvement to skin barrier health and faster recovery, with some seeing reduced redness after a handful of uses.
If you’re ready to make a purchase, we encourage you to invest in a device that fits your lifestyle and routine first, and consider if the LED benefits are aligned with your skin goals.
