How 10 Women Are Planning to Start Their 2025 New Year

10 women from all walks of life generously shared how they plan for the new year. They’re using different tools, mindsets and approaches.

It’s a lovely reminder that some of us don’t enter the new year with a clear plan or with a settled mind, and that’s absolutely ok.

Some of us would have experienced difficult things at the tail end of the year, and those events don’t stay in the past year just because that’s when they first happened.

AJ (She/Her), 29, Event Planner

“I personally love to have a big tidy/clear out heading into the new year, leave all the clutter behind!! I like to think about the year ahead, what I want to achieve and what I'd like to change.

And also have the whole "where has this year went?!?!?" conversation with myself 😅 I should probably reflect on the year that is coming to and end but I'm terrible at that! Always looking forward 🏃🏻‍♀️”

Lara (She/They), 25, content creator

“Reflecting on 2024, it sucked for many reasons, but mostly because I lost my Dad. 2025 was something he knew he wasn’t going to see and thus I am going into it without him.

My goals are to continue doing home improvements, crafting up a storm, keeping up with content, and visiting family overseas.”

Melis (She/Her)

"I'm a big planner, so I like to have my planner ready and write down some events coming up in it that I know are booked.

I also write some new years resolutions, I usually have three, one mental, one physical and one spiritual.

Something ive also being doing for the past few years is writing a letter to my future self, its always nice to reflect on the the year past, and the year ahead"

Elham (She/Her), 27, Digital Accessibility Specialist

“As arbitrary as a new year sounds, it's hard not to feel like it's a fresh start. I'm preparing for 2025 by starting today. My first goal is to prioritise my health. I plan to do this by listening to my body and resting when I need to. I am also exploring forms of exercise that work for me and my lifestyle.

In 2025, I want to become more organised. I like to get the most out of my phone, so I use apps like Todoist, and Google Calendar, to manage my time.

I started using Todoidt last month and I hope this habit carries into 2025. Being organised includes building systems that work for me. I follow Jenny.For.YourThoughts on Instagram, and her content has helped me make small, manageable changes to keep my physical space organised. I feel more productive, and less stressed, when my day and environment are structured.

Lastly, I try not to do too much at once. A beginning, a trip, or a new experience, can all at once. A beginning, a trip, or a new experience, can all be very motivating and give you the momentum you need to make a change in your life. If you try to do too much at once, you risk overwhelming yourself, burning out, and/or giving up. I am trying to be kinder to myself than in past years, and I will enter 2025 knowing that every small change adds up.

If you can only do one thing, as you move into 2025, do it. You'll look back and be surprised at how much it has added up.”

Ellie (She/Her), business owner

“REST is my top priority, because you can’t pour from an empty cup. I’m putting rest first to recharge and gear up for the new year. I’m one of those people who SPRING CLEAN EVERYTHING: my house, my office, my laptop, my email & my phone before the new year.

All the little, annoying tasks get done during this time. Most people think it’s a waste of holiday time, but for me, a clutter-free space = clutter-free, relaxed mind. I also create/work better in clean, organized spaces.

I do a huge brain dump of ideas, things to do, small and big goals. I even keep all my old to do lists, no matter how small the tasks were.

There’s something so satisfying about looking back and seeing it all ticked off. It’s like a little reminder of progress, no matter how big or small.”

Mary (She/Her), 34, Educator

“In 2025 I plan to unapologetically protect my space. If you are not happy for me, I don't want it! Only positive vibes here and working on being the best I can be.

My only competition is with myself. Looking forward to a beautiful 2025.”

Jen (She/Her), 24, Contract manager

“I’m reflecting on some hard lessons learnt in 2024, across all areas of my life and particularly with relationships - with others and with myself!

I’m ready for a more intentional year in 2025. I’ll be setting myself some personal development and career goals to guide myself through what will hopefully be a less rollercoaster year.”

Sally (She/Her)

“Ringing in the new year will be different this year as we’ve welcomed a new baby into our family.. again! I’ll be preparing for 2025 by spring cleaning the home and decluttering everything to make way for new energy.

I’d also like to journal more so I’ll be bringing them out to practise gratitude and write my intentions. When we are grateful, we invite abundance!”

Georgia (She/Her)

“Oh gosh good question 😂  I don’t, I go away on a bucket list trip (every year since covid reopening) and spend too much money and ignore what’s coming and what I need to do in jan and beyond.

The old burying my head in the sand approach - coming to you live from Boston 🤣”

Minnie (She/Her), 27, Content Creator

“Honestly, I do feel a weird pressure on 2025 that I wish wasn’t there.

It’s almost like this is my “last shot” to get my world together. 2024 was a huge high for me for so many areas, including my highest earning year yet- but devastating in others.

Losing my grandma felt awful and hollow, and the tail end of the year left me sliding into old habits that I know aren’t good for me. I’m entering 2025 not my best self- so I’m making sure to be kind to my mind and body.

I’m doing the “Year Compass” for 2024>2025 as highly recommended by my partner, and I’m hoping I can claw myself back to where I was mid 2024. I also love my paper planners, and the Saint Belford one I use has some lovely reflections to set the tone.”
