The Melting Moment Cleansing Balm from Alpha-H is one of those products that you keep going back to first because it’s a wonderful sensory experience to use, but ultimately because it just does the job really well.

I am thrilled to say everyone who I’ve recommended this to absolutely adores it.

But as cleansing balms do tend to come with a higher price tag, let’s go through things like texture, scent, how best to use it to get more of your money’s worth, and whether this is the right fit for you.

About My Skin Type

My before and after on a very heavy (and oxidised) glam makeup day. In the after I haven’t done a second cleanse yet. Image: Provided.

For context, I have combination skin that leans drier in cooler months, with occasional congestion but no ongoing sensitivity.

I wear sunscreen daily and regularly test cleansing balms due to frequent makeup and SPF use.

I’ve also tested multiple products from Alpha-H over time and previously shared a broader brand review, which you can read here, or flick through my summary post via Instagram.

This review focuses specifically on the Melting Moment Cleansing Balm and how it performs as a first cleanse within a real-world routine.

First Impressions

Shop: Alpha-H Melting Moment Cleansing Balm with Wild Orange Leaf Extract, $69.95

The standout straight away is the scent. The Australian Wild Orange Leaf Extract creates this calming, fresh cloud that makes starting your evening routine feel intentional.

When the balm mixes with water, the scent carries very well and is noticeable. Worth flagging if you’re sensitive to essential oils (though my sensitive, acne-prone skin tolerated it fine).

Texture-wise, it’s lush, smooth, and rich without feeling heavy or greasy. This is a proper cleansing balm – the kind you want on makeup-heavy or sunscreen-heavy days.

How It Performs

This balm absolutely melts through stubborn makeup, waterproof mascara, and long-wear sunscreen with ease. Once you add water, it emulsifies beautifully, turning milky and rinsing away without that tight, stripped feeling.

What I love most is how balanced it feels. Your skin feels clean, soft, and nourished – not squeaky or over-cleansed.

It’s also an unexpected crowd-pleaser. Everyone I’ve recommended it to has ended up loving it, which honestly says a lot for a first cleanse.

Key Ingredients

Alpha-H often has limited edition fragrances and versions of this product. Pictured: Orange Creme Brûlée (very, very yummy). Image: Provided.

The formula is thoughtfully put together and very on-brand for Alpha-H:

  • Australian Wild Orange Leaf Extract – calming, refreshing, and aromatic
  • Grapeseed Oil – lightweight nourishment and helps makeup breakdown
  • Australian Sandalwood Seed Oil – supports softness and comfort
  • Bisabolol – soothing and helps maintain the skin’s delicate pH balance

According to Alpha-H, the formula prioritises maintaining the skin’s delicate pH balance without stripping it – and that checks out, IMO.

How to Use the Melting Moment Cleansing Balm

This method applies to pretty much any cleansing balm, not just this one.

When to use it:

  • PM routine
  • Removing makeup
  • Heavy sunscreen days
  • Waterproof or long-wear products

You don’t need a cleansing balm in the morning unless you’re removing leftover makeup from the night before – no judgement if that’s the case.

Steps to Use

It’s tempting to think cleansing is easy – and it is – once you ace the steps. Getting it right means you get the best results from your products of choice (any, not just this one), and helps your skin bounce back after any stress.

Step 1:

When removing makeup / sunscreen, massage a 10c coin amount onto your dry skin.

Step 2:

Once everything is melted down, add a small amount of water to turn the balm cleanser “milky” (this step is emulsification), and massage around for approx 15 seconds.

After emulsification everything turns milky. This is the water mixing with the oils to lift them off the skin. Image: Provided.

Step 3:

Rinse off the milky balm cleanser left on your face.

Step 4:

Now your makeup and sunscreen is removed! To cleanse your skin, while your skin is still damp, go in with your second cleanse.

The Texture

This is on the richer, more luxurious side, which makes it ideal for makeup days. It’s completely smooth with no graininess and spreads easily across the skin.

It does leave a slight nourishing residue, which combo-to-dry skin types will likely enjoy. If you’re oilier, you’ll probably want to follow with a gel or cream cleanser as your second step.

Who It’s Best For

  • Makeup wearers
  • Daily SPF users
  • Combo to dry skin types
  • Anyone who loves a sensory skincare experience
  • People who hate tugging at their skin to remove makeup

If you’re very oily or acne-prone, pairing it with a gentle second cleanse will give you the best results.

Travel-Friendly Option

A big win is that many of Alpha-H’s best-sellers come in mini sizes – including this balm.

Perfect for travel, gym bags, or if you want to try it before committing to the full size.

Final Thoughts

The Alpha-H Melting Moment Cleansing Balm is one of those products that earns its place through performance, not hype.

It’s effective, comforting, and genuinely enjoyable to use – which is exactly what you want from the first step of your routine.

If removing makeup ever feels like a chore, this is the product that changes that.
